Import duty & landed-cost calculator

See your landed cost before you wire a deposit.

Enter your numbers and we show how product cost, freight, duty and import tax add up to what you actually pay. You supply the rates — we keep the math honest.

Estimate — verify duty and classification with your customs broker.

How landed cost adds up

No black box. This is the whole formula:

  1. Goods = unit price × quantity
  2. Customs value = goods + freight (basis varies by country — CIF vs FOB)
  3. Duty = customs value × your duty rate
  4. Import tax = (customs value + duty) × your VAT/GST rate
  5. Landed cost = goods + freight + duty + import tax + fees

Where the rates come from

  • We do not guess your duty rate. You enter the rate your broker or the tariff schedule gives — the total is only as right as that input.
  • The HS code sets the rate. If you are not sure which code applies, describe your product and we will suggest likely codes.
  • Every figure here is an estimate. Confirm classification, duty and tax with your customs broker before you commit.

Questions about import duty

What is landed cost?

The all-in cost of getting goods to your door: the product price plus freight, import duty, any import tax (VAT/GST) and handling or broker fees. It is the number that decides your real margin — not the unit price a supplier quotes.

Why do you not just tell me the duty rate?

Because the rate depends on the exact HS classification of your product and any trade agreements between the two countries — and getting that wrong is expensive. We compute the total from a rate you or your broker confirm, so the math is honest. Not sure of your code? Describe the product and we will suggest likely HS codes.

What is the duty charged on?

Usually a customs value, but the basis varies by country — some use CIF (goods + insurance + freight), others FOB (goods only). This tool uses goods + freight as the customs value and charges import tax on customs value + duty, which is common. Adjust the inputs if your country differs, and confirm with your broker.
